Target Circle Card 5 Percent: The Quiet Stack on Apple, Gaming, and Clothing

Target Circle Card 5 percent at checkout stacks on Apple iPad, AirPods, gaming consoles, and clothing markdowns. Most other retailers cannot do this. Here is the actual math.

Why the Target Circle Card stack is unique

Target Circle Card and Target RedCard 5 percent at checkout stacks on top of most promotional pricing including Apple iPad, iPad Pro, AirPods, Apple Watch, PS5 Slim, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch hardware. The exception is iPhone hardware, where Apple MAP excludes Circle stacking.

Most other major retailers cannot stack member discounts on Apple or console MAP. My Best Buy Plus does not stack on Apple iPhone or PS5 hardware. Walmart Plus does not stack on Apple at all. Amazon Lightning Deals are the only mechanism for Apple discounts at Amazon.

Target's Circle Card 5 percent on console hardware is one of the few consistent ways to get below MAP on a new PS5, Xbox Series X, or Switch.

The math on common stacks

On a $499 iPad Air M2: Circle Card 5 percent at checkout = $25 net off. Final cost $474.

On a $499 PS5 Slim: Circle Card 5 percent at checkout = $25 net off. Final cost $474.

On a $249 AirPods Pro 2 USB-C: Circle Card 5 percent at checkout = $12.50 net off. Final cost $236.50.

On a $349 Nintendo Switch OLED bundle: Circle Card 5 percent at checkout = $17.45 net off. Final cost $331.55.

The savings is small per item but compounds across a cart, especially during Black Friday and Cyber Monday when bundle pricing already discounts the unit. The 5 percent applies to the bundle price, not the pre-bundle price.

Why the iPhone exception matters

Target Circle Card 5 percent does NOT apply to iPhone hardware due to Apple MAP terms. This is the one Apple exception. The Target Black Friday iPhone bundle play is the activation gift card ($250 to $300 Target gift card with carrier postpaid activation), not the Circle Card stack on hardware.

For iPhone Black Friday shopping at Target, the gift card bundle is the savings mechanism. The Circle Card 5 percent does apply to the gift card amount when you spend it later (essentially adding another 5 percent on the redeemed gift card spending), but not to the iPhone hardware itself.

How RedCard differs from Circle Card

Target RedCard (debit version) requires linking to a checking account and pulls the 5 percent at-checkout discount from your bank account directly. No credit check, no annual fee. Target RedCard (credit version) requires a credit application and operates as a Target store credit card with the same 5 percent at-checkout discount plus standard credit card features.

Target Circle Card is the credit-card-free version of the same 5 percent at-checkout discount. Available to anyone who signs up for the Target Circle membership program (free).

All three (Circle Card, RedCard debit, RedCard credit) qualify for the 5 percent at-checkout stack. Pick whichever fits your spending pattern. The math is identical.

How clothing markdown stacks compound

Target's house clothing brands (Goodfellow, Wild Fable, A New Day, All in Motion, Cat & Jack) follow a 4-week markdown cycle ending in 70 percent off final clearance. The Circle Card 5 percent stacks at checkout on top of any active markdown.

A $30 Goodfellow shirt at full price becomes $14.25 net at 50 percent markdown plus Circle Card 5 percent ($15 markdown × 0.95 = $14.25). At 70 percent final clearance plus Circle Card, $9 × 0.95 = $8.55 net. The cumulative discount on a markdown-and-stack item can exceed 75 percent off original price.

For shoppers building a wardrobe across multiple Target purchases throughout the year, the Circle Card 5 percent stack across the late-January and late-August clearance windows can save $150 to $400 annually on clothing alone.

Stacking the Circle Card with eShop and Apple gift cards

Target Circle Card 5 percent applies at checkout on Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, Xbox Live, and Apple Store gift cards purchased at Target. This is one of the few consistent ways to discount eShop and PSN spending.

On a $50 Nintendo eShop card: Circle Card 5 percent = $2.50 net off, final cost $47.50. Across $200 in annual eShop card purchases, that is $10 in savings.

For Apple gift cards used to buy iPhone apps, App Store subscriptions, and iCloud storage, the Circle Card stack effectively discounts those services 5 percent (since the cards spend at face value at Apple).

When Target wins on console hardware

Most retailers price PS5 Slim at $499 MSRP. Best Buy My Best Buy Plus does not discount console hardware. Walmart Plus does not discount console hardware. Amazon discounts only during Prime Big Deal Days, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Christmas week.

Target with Circle Card 5 percent at checkout consistently brings the PS5 Slim to $474 net year-round. During Black Friday week, Target also runs PS5 Slim bundles (Spider-Man 2 plus 3 months PS Plus) that include the bundle pricing AND stack the Circle Card 5 percent on top.

The 2024 Black Friday Target PS5 Slim bundle was $499 with Spider-Man 2 plus 3 months PS Plus included, $474 net with Circle Card. That same bundle composition at Best Buy was $499 with no comparable stack.

Same Day Delivery via Shipt

Same Day Delivery via Shipt is free on orders $35 and above for Target Circle Card holders during Cyber Monday week and select promotional periods. Useful for last-minute holiday gifts or anything you do not want to wait for shipping on.

Outside promotional periods, Same Day Delivery via Shipt is $9.99 per order or $99 per year for unlimited delivery.

How to stack URL tracking with Circle Card

DiffScout monitoring catches Target product URL price drops the minute they happen. The Circle Card 5 percent applies at checkout on top of whatever the listed price is when you click through. Combining the alert plus the automatic Circle Card stack catches both the live drop and the membership benefit.

For Apple iPad, AirPods, Apple Watch, gaming console hardware, and clothing markdowns, set weekly monitoring outside promotional windows and daily during Black Friday week, Cyber Monday, late January and late August clothing clearance.

The bottom line

Target Circle Card 5 percent at checkout is a quiet but materially valuable stack on Apple non-iPhone, gaming consoles, and clothing. For shoppers who already buy regularly at Target, the card is essentially free money on every purchase. For shoppers chasing the deepest console MAP-breaking deals, Target plus Circle Card is one of the few consistent year-round paths.
